Chapman came to my House quoted me a price for a fan motor replacement of $451 to $758 and also charged me a $69 service fee.

My family was in the Heating Business for 80 years in Manhattan and I could do the work myself. I looked up the part number on the interment and could buy one for $159 max myself. So I figure $400 to $500 is high but fair for the right job. Everyone is entitled to make an honest living.

It was literally a 4 bolt and job and should not take more than 1 hour to complete test and retest. But hings did not go as I anticipated.

They claim the part cost $210 and charged me $742 in total. Since Chapman spent less than 2 hours in my home. I think the cost and the horrendous attitude to my wife was unprofessional. Chapman used to be a good shop and I cannot recommend them any longer. I did not expect these games from them.

I am very happy with the service from Chapman Bros. They came quickly on a Wednesday morning to repair our furnace when we had no heat. And came back a few days later when some safety features of the furnace needed to be reset. Pricing was fair and they were very responsive when faced with a family with no heat.

When I first called, I was greeted by a friendly, helpful voice on the other line. We discussed the problem and I’d requested that someone come out either that day or the following morning (I had sitting water in my ceiling). She told me to expect a call from a technician later in the day to discuss further details. Unfortunately, I never got the call. I called again that evening and they were finally able to schedule something but not until two days later. Although I was a little annoyed that I never actually got to talk with a technician and they came later than I’d hoped, he did arrive on time on the scheduled day and fixed the problem in a short amount of time. So far everything is good!

My contractor introduced us to Chapman Bros when we renovated our house. We've used them for all HVAC and plumbing matters since. Recently woke up without heat and learned our 40 year old boiler was leaking fluids. Someone arrived within a few hours and repaired it same day. Always can rely on them to wear masks, explain alternatives, and be willing to answer questions.

Update:

The business response below to my initial review was accurate. In fact, I was impressed with their willingness to come by on such short notice.

When I called at 3:30pm the receptionist was far from warm and seemed irritated with me calling to check in. She said they WILL CALL ME a half hour before they arrived -- which they never did.

Bill called me this morning to tell me he had stopped by and knocked/rang the doorbell. I was in the home the whole time and didn't hear anything, but I'll take him at his word and he seemed truly apologetic, even offering to come to the home this morning (unfortunately I had to take the time off from work yesterday and therefore couldn't today).

He said the company could not find where they put my phone number and that's why he never called. I believe him on this, too. I get that things happen but the attitudes I received from the different folks I spoke to there was icing on the cake for having lost a day of work. Melissa who I initially spoke with was great, though.

Initial review:

I would not recommend them at all. Completely unprofessional and they wasted my entire day.

I waited all day for them to arrive and even called when they were running late to be told I would receive a call 30 minutes before they arrived.

Four hours later I was finally able to get a hold of one of the technicians who told me the guy had been here hours before and that nobody was home — which is complete bs. I was in the living room by the door all day and they never called me once.

I live in a 1920's Tudor home. It is really not made for air conditioning. The Chapman team did an incredible job fitting my house with a fantastic AC system to keep me cool all summer. It looks great from both the inside and outside. The crew was amazing, even through the challenges of my old house. I thank Chapman for their hard, and great, work and would recommend them to anyone looking for HVAC guidance.

Chapman Brothers is terrific. I called 4 local plumbers on a Friday night. They were the only company that responded. They came by at 7am Saturday morning and fixed the problem. Very efficient, very responsive. I highly recommend them and I would definitely use them again.

I have used Chapman Brothers for my plumbing needs for many years and I have always liked their professional service and staff. However, today I am annoyed at one thing that happen during a "service" call. Every year I have them out to either service my AC or furnace to make sure they are in proper working order. Before the service call I went to their web site and downloaded their $25.00 off coupon for "any service". The technician did an excellent job in cleaning our my AC system and making sure the compressor, etc. was in good working order . However when it was time to pay the bill he called the office to determine if my coupon could be used. That is when he said that the coupon could not be used because this is not a "service call" it is a "maintenance call". I don't know about other home owners but when I call a professional to come to my house to work on whatever in the house I consider that a "service" call. I think the Chapman Brothers coupon is very misleading as written and should be corrected so that other customers are not fooled by this word play
