My toilet was old and caused a lot of headaches! I called A-1 American on a Wednesday morning and immediately got a call back and was told someone could be out the next day. The technician, Jeremy was very professional and gave me multiple calls to inform me when he'd arrive. Upon arrival he looked at the bathroom and got right to work. Even went the extra mile and took the toilet I bought back to Home Depot. It was broken and I didn't realize that before he got here. From start to finish the whole process took less than 3 hours even with multiple trips to the store. I'm very impressed with Jeremy's work performance and so happy to have a properly working toilet. Thank you A-1 American!

I needed my main water line replaced from meter to house. Ray called me an said he could look at it and give me an est. the next day. The work was completed in a timely manor for the same price he quoted. Ray and the crew that helped did a great job. They were always respectful.

On May 8, 2015, Bryan (Plumber) came out to our home to make necessary repairs on our lower level bathroom sink, which he handled excellently. His professionalism to the time he promised to arrive and completion of the job was above and beyond what I have ever seen from contractors. Bryan explained every step of the process, allowing me to make educated choices for required repairs. A-1 has earned my respect and trust and we welcome using the company again for future projects. I would definitely recommend A-1 American. I had a leak in my kitchen, and the Master Plumber David O diagnosed the problem quick. He gave me an estimate. I set up the appointment for the following day because the leak was a non emergency. David showed up early for the appointment, and explained in detail what he was going to do to fix the problem. You can tell that Master Plumber David really takes pride in his work, and he is not going to cut any corners. David went above and beyond what is expected. I had some bushes blocking his entrance to the crawl space under the house, and he cut those for me with my permission of course. Thanks Again A-1 American, and I will definitely be using your company for any of my Plumbing & Heating needs.

When our upstairs AC wouldn't pump cool air, I called our usual HVAC company (name not included) for service. Thought I just needed a refrigerant charge. They couldn't get to me for two weeks! I contacted A-1 American and they sent out a tech the next day. Stafford arrived on time and did a thorough inspection of the system, including climbing up into the hot attic. It turned out that the coil was rusted out and leaking coolant.

Stafford did a great job of explaining what the problem was and the options for repairing or replacing the system. Based on his input, I decided that the best option was replacing the whole system. It was 28 years old and it had served me well. Stafford and his capable assistant started the next day. In two work days, they removed and installed the system. What amazed me was everything had to go though a 2-1/2 foot by 2-1/2 foot ceiling opening in a bedroom closet!

Many kudos to Stafford. His professional manner, work ethic, and ability to articulate what was required for repair made what could have been an exasperating experience bearable. Kudos as well to the front office staff; very easy to work with. I recommend A-1 American without hesitation.

My elderly parents 7 year old heat pump stopped working this past spring. They called A-1 because they received a reward from the Daily press for there good service. Douglas Jackson was the tech that came to their house. He was rued and had an attitude, like he was being bothered. My parents were told that they needed a new heat pump and that it would cost $6,000. My parents accepted. Douglas came back out a week later to replace the unit and told them that
their thermostat was not compatible and that it would have to be replaced at an additional cost. My parents, not knowing any better, agreed. Douglas did not have a thermostat with him, so he would have to come back in a couple of days. A weeks have past and unanswered phone calls later they still haven't heard from Douglas. My parents told me about this and I went to the office in Newport News to let them know of this problem and that I was unhappy about how things are being handled. My parents did hear from Doulas the next day and an appointment was made for the next day. Douglas came out and hooked up the new thermostat and assured my parents that everything is now working fine.

Here we are 5 months later. My parents turn on the heat and the heat is not working. My parents call for an appointment. Douglas comes out. Douglas charged them $500 to hook up a wire to the thermostat. Something that should have been done 5 month ago. I am so angry that they would take advantage of elderly people. My father has call numerous time to ask about the charges and still can not get anyone to call him back.

I was not getting heat in my residence so I called A-1 Heating and Cooling for help. I had used this company in past for plumbing and was satisfied with them. I was greeted with a warm lady with great customer service and a tech called within 15 minutes and arrived about 15 minutes after his call. He met me with a smile and great attitude. He too was into good customer service, and within about 1 hour found the problems, removed, replaced, and repaired my furnace. HEAT blowing great. I would highly recommend this company and Jake, my tech. Call A-1 American for HVAC needs and ask for Jake to come out.

My toilet is old. I’ve been having some issues with it the past few weeks so I called to try and get some help. The first guy who came out was very kind and helpful, and they came the same day that I called to schedule. After about a week I called with an emergency and one of their plumbers, John, came out even though it was very late in the day and fixed the issue with no charge. This week I had another less urgent issue and I contacted John directly since he gave me his number. He was responsive and came out as soon as possible and fixed everything again with no charge. Thank you guys for caring and for standing by your work!

This Company is a total rip off. The way the treat military is totally disrespectful. I called this company for service on 18 November 2018, I set an appointment for a service tech to come out due to a back up in the house. The Associate on the phone told me that a tech will come out and do an analysis of the situation and give me a pricing on any work that needed to be completed. They charged me $150 just for the tech to show up. The tech arrived and I explained to him what happened. Without taking a look at anything on or within my property the tech said I will snake your mainline and the cost will be $575. I asked the tech how does he know that to be the issue if you failed to check anything. The tech stated very rudely that he has 28 years of experience and he doesn’t need to check anything because he knows what the issue is. So long story short I kicked this rude and unprofessional tech who was trying to take advantage of a military member. I contacted the owner Ray and informed him about his tech and the unprofessionalism displayed. I informed the owner that his tech did nothing for a $150 dollars and that I should not be charged due to the tech not doing what I was told he was coming to do. Ray informed me after two weeks of phone tag. That he will not refund my money. So as a end result. I paid $150 for a guy to come out and say hi.

This company is a total rip off save you time and money ladies and gentlemen. Scam artists beware.

I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well. I am also going to notify command staff on base to get this company black listed due to them trying to take advantage of a military member.
